VerifiedPermafrost Beginner Guide
The first useful Permafrost plan begins with the pressures Steam actually confirms: cold, storms, shelter, exploration, scavenging, crafting, and timing.

Understand the Rook role
The Rook is an engineer with the skills to rebuild but limited wilderness experience. That description supports a preparation-first approach: use engineering and repair as the bridge between ruined infrastructure and deeper exploration.
- Treat shelter as a progression system, not only a place to stop.
- Keep a record of what a repaired machine or abandoned shelter changes once the game is playable.
- Do not assume that every engineer action or recipe is known before launch.
Prepare before pushing into the cold
The store page names frostbite and storms as dangers and says preparation, shelter, and timing matter. A good beginner route should therefore record weather, exposure, supplies, and return timing rather than only enemy encounters.
Not yet verified
Exact warmth meters, frostbite thresholds, storm durations, hunger values, and recommended item counts need hands-on testing.
When playing with friends
Steam says up to four players can build shelter networks, divide responsibilities, and play to each other’s strengths. The initial co-op plan should assign roles only after the released build shows which tasks can actually be divided.
